I recently rediscovered Ghost Harmonics. They are truly amazing. In this song I use them to work on the color of the sound. Enjoy the bamboo-like sound and try not to force the sound. Play with a relaxed embouchure.

If I were a blackbird I would sing with as many colors as possible. This is a simple melody. Adding the key clicks is a good coordination exercise. It should sound like two flutes are playing. Let the melody sing and make the key clicks very rhythmic.
Stephen C. Foster wrote numerous pieces and songs. All in a beautiful, simple style. This song is an example. I added some bisbigliando trills. It’s fun to play with timbre a bit and working with different fingerings gives you more flexibility.
The trio of this German dance is also called ‘The sleigh ride’. Imagine you are skating on the ice. Snow all around you. Since it is not really possible to imitate bells on the flute, I used wind sounds and flutter tongue to make the trio of this dance extra special.
Ghost harmonics are great fun for practicing support and a relaxed embouchure. Enjoy the bamboo-like sound while studying step 2. Try playing step 3 with relaxed embouchure as practiced in step 2. Start with the exercise.
In the original piece the beautiful melody is accompanied by the pizzicato playing of the strings. In this arrangement I tried to copy the pizzicato feel with pizzicato on the flute. The alto flute part and the bass flute part are the same. If necessary one can be left out.
Antoine Hugot was a professor at the Conservatoire in Paris and wrote one of the most important flute methods of his time. He also wrote a few flute duets. In this version of Flute Colors, flutter tongue has been added to increase the support and thereby increase the sound.
Singing and playing is a perfect technique to improve your sound. In this piece it is also a nice coordination exercise. Practice this piece with singing and playing first, and then perform it without singing and playing.
This overture is in typical French style. Picture a king entering the room at the opening of the piece and in the second part the dancers appear. All very graceful and now with a small Flute Colors wink.
Vivaldi wrote a lot of beautiful music. A while ago I came across this piece and decided to arrange it one day. I tried to capture the soft and fragile accompaniment with wind sounds. The solo flute has many possibilities to flourish.
