 194 I Like The Flowers

If flowers don’t make you smile, then this song will. You can play it all day long. This Flute Colors arrangement can be played by one player, but is even more fun when played by multiple players. It starts with a basic pattern and then the song appears. You have the best effect with at least four players.

 193 Fun with ‘Bad Habits’

We probably all have bad habits. Practicing this exercise is not one of them! Wind sounds make your embouchure flexible, flutter tongue helps you get more support, pizzicato helps to improve your articulation and pitch bending is useful for finding the right and best angle of the day.

 189 Polly Wolly Doodle

At first glance this seems like a simple melody, but when you start playing this game, a big challenge comes your way. This exercise is most fun with four or more players. Each player chooses a technique and notehead and plays when the note is written. The goal is to get the melody flowing smoothly while all players play one note.

187 Fun with ‘Save Your Tears’

You don’t have to cry with this warm-up exercise. Bamboo tones help you discover new sounds and are useful for intonation. Playing the flutter tongue can help improve support and notice tension in the throat. Tongue stops are helpful for the coordination of the tongue and abdomen.

176 Fun with ‘Little in the Middle’

For my online workshops, I needed a song to practice some of the more challenging techniques such as whistle tones and circular breathing. This exercise is designed to experiment with these techniques without pressure. So don’t focus too much on the results, but explore the possibilities.

 165 Mozart – German Dance No. 3 KV 605

The trio of this German dance is also called ‘The sleigh ride’. Imagine you are skating on the ice. Snow all around you. Since it is not really possible to imitate bells on the flute, I used wind sounds and flutter tongue to make the trio of this dance extra special.

 164 Fun with ‘Mistletoe’

Practicing long notes is a good way to warm up. Adding flutter tongue to the note improves your support. This song is also perfect for practicing this multiphonic. What a wonderful feeling when you let those two notes sound at the same time.
