In this arrangement I added key clicks. When key clicks are played in an ensemble and are played very well at the same time, the effect is really great. It is not easy to play the key clicks at the same time. You can also play pizzicato instead of key clicks if you want.

In dit arrangement heb ik key clicks toegevoegd. Wanneer key clicks in een ensemble worden gespeeld en heel precies tegelijkertijd gespeeld worden, is het effect geweldig. Het is niet makkelijk om de key clicks tegelijkertijd te spelen. Je kunt ook pizzicato spelen in plaats van key clicks als je dat wilt.

This is such a beautiful melody and makes me feel a bit melancholic when I think of the sun and a beautiful Spanish landscape. I added bisbigliando trills, or color trills, to give the impression of a warm, sunny, vibrant day.

Dit is zo’n prachtige melodie en ik word er een beetje melancholisch van als ik denk aan de zon en een prachtig Spaans landschap. Ik heb er bisbigliando-trillers, oftewel kleurtrillers, aan toegevoegd om de indruk te wekken van een warme, zonnige, levendige dag.

Chasing paradise and chasing control over your embouchure in this exercise. The wind sounds help to make your embouchure flexible, the same goes for the tone bending. The key clicks are for precise finger movements and in combination with sound they are also good for the coordination between fingers and tongue.

 336 Rameau – Hymne à la nuit

Jean-Philippe Rameau was a French composer from the Baroque period. He wrote this piece which means ‘Hymn to the Night’. I replaced the grace notes with quarter tones. It gives a nice effect and we can practice fingerings for the quarter tones.

Jean-Philippe Rameau was een Franse componist uit de barokperiode. Hij schreef dit stuk dat ‘Hymne aan de nacht’ betekent. Ik heb de versieringen vervangen door kwarttonen. Dat geeft een mooi effect en we kunnen grepen voor de kwarttonen oefenen.

Students of mine who work on harmonics develop faster with the sound production. Because the support is activated, the sound will be better. It is quite challenging to play this study with harmonics. Remember that struggling is good. I find it works best if you practice this version alongside the original version.

The first time I heard this song was by James Galway with his very big sound. The melody is beautiful. Bamboo tones seem like a great match to color the melody and give it some character. And it’s also a great brain training to learn all the fingers.
